Inhaltsangabe: This book is essential reading for anybody fighting in the wars now going on in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan, regardless of which side you happen to be fighting on. Dr. Theodore Leighton Pennell was a Christian missionary and a doctor who lived among the tribes of Afghanistan. He founded a missionary hospital in Bannu in the North-West Frontier of British India, now Pakistan. Bannu was then and is now regarded as one of the most dangerous places in the world. This is the area where Osama bin Laden is believed to be hiding. It is now the scene of the heaviest fighting between the US and Pakistan Armies vs. The Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
Über den Autor: Dr. Theodore Leighton Pennell (1867-1912), was a Christian missionary and a doctor who lived among the tribes of Afghanistan. He founded a missionary hospital in Bannu in the North-West Frontier of British India, now Pakistan. For his work he received the Kaisar-i-Hind Medal for Public Service in India. In addition, to this book, he wrote "Things Seen in Northern India". He died of septicemia on March 23, 1912 at age 45 in his own hospital at Bannu. He has probably contracted that disease from the patients in his hospital. He had married a lady doctor from India. His work was carried on by his wife, Alice Maud Sorabji Pennell, who wrote several biographies of her late husband, including "Pennell of the Afghan frontier : The life of Theodore Leighton Pennell", A hero of the Afghan frontier: The splendid life story of T.L. Pennell ... retold for boys & girls, and Pennell of the Afghan frontier: The life of Theodore Leighton Pennell, M.D., B. SC., F.R.C.S. Kaisar-i-Hind medal for public service in India. As Mrs. Theodore Pennell, she also wrote "Children of the Border" and "The Begum's Son" but none of her books achieved the fame of her husband's work, "Among The Wild Tribes Of The Afghan Frontier: A Record Of Sixteen Years' Close Intercourse With The Natives Of The Indian Marches". Bannu was then and is now regarded as one of the most dangerous places in the world. It is right next to the Tribal Area of Pakistan, a lawless region where every man carries a gun. It is now the scene of the heaviest fighting between the US and Pakistan Armies vs. The Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
