Inhaltsangabe: Danes in America is the first volume of a projected translation of the massive, two-volume work Danske i Amerika issued in 1906 and 1916.Used extensively by scholars of Danish Lutheranism the work has never before been available to non-Danish readers. Edward Hansen and Inga Larsen, grandchildren of two of the early Danes appearing in the work, have provided a text that is readable but yet retains significant nuances of the original Danish. This volume covers the crucial decades of the nineteenth century when Danish immigrants struggled at forming a Lutheran church of their own. Eventually differences of religious emphases outweighed Danish heritage resulting in two different churches on the American scene. Peter L. Petersen has written an informative introductory essay on P.S. Vig and the context of the earlier work. This volume reproduces the original illustrations which have been supplemented with photographs from the Danish immigrant Archives at both Grand View and Dana College.

His ministry ended with his death in 1937 at the age of 93.
