Über den Autor:
Gershom Griffith was born in Barbados, West Indies in 1960, where he began drawing and painting at the age of seven.
After moving to New York City in 1971, he spent numerous hours at the Metropolitan Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, and other various galleries in New York, as a youth.
He has worked as an illustrator for over twenty years creating several hundred illustrations for educational material, in addition to fifty-five books.
His love and appreciation of nature, people, and beauty is exemplified in his broad range of subjects, from landscapes to figurative works.
His most recent paintings have been inspired by sketches and digital photographs from his travels, painting primarily with watercolor and oils.
Gershom currently resides in Orlando, Florida.
Courtni is a native of Washington, DC and for many years taught school. She went to Trinity College and later earned a master's degree in education from Johns Hopkins. While developing curriculum materials, Courtni noticed that there was not much African American history in the textbooks. Friends suggested that she was the ideal person to write such books. She contacted Holiday House and submitted a proposal for a chapter book. The material ended up being separated into three picture books, all illustrated by Gershom Griffith. They have been adopted for use in the CORE knowledge curriculum.
