Über den Autor: JOHN MITCHEL (1815-75) was born in Dungiven, Co. Derry, the son of a Presbyterian minister. He qualified as a solicitor, joined Young Ireland and was later a Fenian. He was transported to Van Diemen's Land in 1848, escaped and travelled to America, where he worked as a journalist, championing the southern states in the civil war.
