Original typed letter signed by the author, French-born actor, Jean Pierre Aumont, to the sister of actress Lilli Palmer, on Lilli PalmerÕs passing. Aumont writes: Ò.I want you to know how terribly sad I feel about our darling Lil. She was the most wonderful woman, and I loved her very much. Such intelligence, such compassion, such gifts. We enjoyed forty year of friendship, and shared so many souvenirs: ÔLÕEmpereur de ChineÕ on Broadway, ÔHans Le MarinÕ filmed in Marseilles, and five summers in a row at Portofino! I can well imagine what a loss it will be for you. Marisa and I think of you from the bottom of our hearts. Much love, Jean Pierre.Ó Very minor creasing from folding, else fine. The lovely and elegant Lilli Palmer (1914 - 1986) made her stage debut in Berlin in 1932, then, after the Nazi takeover, made her way to Paris to work in the Moulin Rouge. She first appeared in motion pictures in 1935 and in 1945 came to the U.S. with her first husband, actor Rex Harrison (with whom she starred in the 1945 film, The RakeÕs Progress / Notorious Gentleman), where she enjoyed a career in Hollywood and on Broadway before returning to Europe in 1954. Her autobiography, Change the Lobsters and Dance, was met with critical and popular acclaim. Jean Pierre Aumont (1911 - 2001) was a handsom and charming leading man who starred in many French, American, and international films. He came to the U.S. in 1942 and found work and fame in the MGM film about the French Resistance, Assignment in Brittany (1943), and then appeared in several other Hollywood films before returning to France to continue his acting career, to write for the stage, and to publish his autobiography, Sun and Shadow, in 1976.
