A description of all the various parts of the different types of locomotives, their principles of operation, management, repair and maintenance; also the air brake, mechanical stokers, feed water heaters, superheaters, and the latest developments in the railway field. A total of 1746 pages with review questions, illustrations, photographs and foldouts. Bound in very dark green cloth with border and locomotive on front cover stamped in blind. Lettering on spine in gilt. Marbled page edges. The institute's Consulting Certificate number 18334 bound in the rear of the final volume. Most volumes have soft corners with very slight wear and some discoloration. Though all five volumes are very good, the text remains fine. Rarely found as a complete set in attractive condition.
