Inhaltsangabe: Rachel and her best friend Paul spend long summer hours sailing the shoreline of their New England village in the pram her dad built for her. Sensing deep ties to a nautical past, she often pores over dusty volumes in the old library, looking for clues to her heritage. She finds tantalizing hints that a pirate queen bearing her own last name once paid frequent visits to their sleepy village. Paul teases her about such notions, but is a willing and capable first mate. The pair decide to celebrate arriving almost simultaneously at age fifteen by secretly sailing across a tricky stretch of water to camp on an island just off the coast. Their gray-haired friend and mentor, Captain Jensen, has promised them the use of his eighteen-footer Seawitch. The youngsters get nowhere at all in extracting permission from their parents, who of course want too much detail, enough to spoil the mystery of their plan. On the foggy evening of their birthday party, they have still not been given a parental green light, but unexpectedly find themselves immersed in an adventure they hadn?t planned on.
