Inhaltsangabe: Since his death in 1941, F. Scott Fitzgerald's writing has been continuously reassessed and the importance of his contribution to 20th-century American literature is now unchallenged. The aim of this collection is not only to present the best that has been thought and said about Fitzgerald, but also to present a detailed picture of how he was viewed by his contemporaries (reviewers, critics and fellow writers). The first volume begins with eleven essays which establish the various contexts by which his work can be approached, which are followed by a section of "Memories and Reminiscences". The volume concludes with pieces of contemporary critical opinion. The second volume covers critical reaction to his juvenilia, his plays and his first two volumes, "This Side of Paradise" and "The Beautiful and Damned". Volume Three is devoted to "Tender is the Night", "The Last Tycoon", "The Crack Up" and the short stories. Volume Four is in two sections. The first, "General Perspectives" contains important essays, including several which have rarely been reprinted. The second, "Fitzgerald and other Writers" contains essays on Fitzgerald and other writers in the American literary tradition. This collection offers the student of Fitzgerald a significant range of writingon him from contemporary criticism to the 1990s. The bibliography offers a selective listing of the major critical texts and bibliographies as well as details of the publications and serializations of Fitzgerald's novels and stories.
