Marketing Analyst Europe

AbeBooks is an online marketplace for books. AbeBooks is a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. AbeBooks, an online bookselling pioneer, was acquired in December 2008 and remains a stand-alone operation with headquarters in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and a European office in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Successful candidates will take a major role in marketing campaign planning and analysis, customer segmentation, data mining, and dashboard report generation.

The Marketing Analyst will be primarily responsible for preparing and executing email plans for our existing customers through the use of sophisticated segmentation and selection techniques. This process involves using insights from data-mining to determine appropriate product offers and content to email to different customer segments.

Additionally, this position will help plan and execute online marketing programs including search and affiliate marketing which support customer acquisition goals.

The ideal candidate’s capabilities will include a comprehensive working knowledge of analytical techniques and their application to marketing or business areas. Prior experience with statistical analysis, web analytics, or consumer research a plus but not a necessity.

The position is located in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Main Activities

  • Support our overall e-mail strategy, design targeted programs and personalized features
  • Define business objectives, develop campaign strategies and testing plans and identify new opportunities
  • Utilize analytic tools to develop business and marketing insights
  • Develop campaign analysis reports and insights
  • Utilize database skills and excel skills to generate customer behavior insights and segments from disparate data sources
  • Compile, analyze, and present performance metrics, push for tools and areas for improvement
  • Manage and analyze transactional emails as part of the email marketing channel
  • Work with various stakeholders, including traffic channel leaders, to understand business drivers, goals and actionable outcomes of analyses
  • Help to pull data and perform basic analytical exercises
  • Provide input on suggested business actions based on analytical findings

Qualifications/Skills

The successful candidate will have a passion for online marketing, the drive to flawlessly execute on strategic goals, and able to adapt to the ever-changing online environment.

Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to use customer data in smart and ground-breaking ways are a must.

He/she should be innovative, team oriented, and an effective communicator, as well as have a desire to participate in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • 0-3 years of online or direct marketing experience in an online retail environment
  • Knowledge of the e-mail channel
  • Proven ability to both retain and attract new customers
  • The ability to conceptualize and manage multiple projects
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong bias for action and ability to prioritize
  • Technical requirements include practical use of HTML, XML, Web design tools, and Excel, plus the ability to learn complex in-house tools quickly
  • BA/BS required, advanced degree a plus
  • Advanced English level
