    Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. London: Rodwell & Martin, 1823, First Edition. Engraved title and etching opposite plus 61 engraved plates, collated and compleyte. Following each plate is a narrative in English and then French (verso) describing the area from the plate illustration. Major LIGHT. Sicilian Scenery from drawings by P. De Wint. The original sketches by Major Light. First Edition, 11 ¼ and inches tall. Scenes include Cefalù, Porta Nuova in Messina, the Bay of Palermo from Porta Felice, Girgenti, the Port of Messina from Castel Guelfonio , Catania from the west, Alicata, Palermo from Bagheria, Ancient road to Syracuse and many more. The only plate that doesn t match the contents description or the narrative that follows is the Street of Quattro Fontane, Messina the plate says The Church of St Iacomo A Convent of White Friars as called for. New binding in lovely dark half calf with marbled boards. A scarce first edition with 61 lovely engravings of a beautiful region of Italy. Approximately 11 ¼inches tall. A total of 123 engraved plates in this edition including titles. First Edition also a special edition with duplicate plates for each engraving. Every engraving bar one, including the title page, has a duplicate on the opposite page (left-hand side) some are printed with Etch or Etching by a specific artist but most are blank. The only engraving that doesn t have a duplicate is Capuchin Convent behind the Theatre of Taormina see photo. The engraved plates on the right-hand side of the page are all titled as per the first edition.
