Includes: Report of Treasurer, Alfred Dwight Foster, with List of employee salaries [excluding Woodward], provisions, other expenses, Addendum on cost per week (private, out of state and patients from other countries added); Report of the Superintendent, Samuel B. Woodward with 1196-patient roster and 21 additional tables formatted for the first time with the tables inserted in the narration [391 admissions with 236 patients remaining at the end of the year]; A New Report on Labor and Employment "No class of our patients are so contented and happy as the laborers, no other convalescent recovers so rapidly or so favorably". The report continues with income from crops raised on hospital grounds ($1,887.89); A report follows from the shoe-shop with sales; a section was added to report on Amusements, Health (diet, menus, warmth and ventilation), Discipline, Medication, Library and Periodicals, Fire Department, Chapel and Religious Services, Register of the Weather (introduced the previous year). (see Sabin 45988). Woodward, regarded as the pioneer of American psychiatric practice, greatly expanded his treatment and reports in this year, also pioneering the paid workshops which are in existence today in group homes. Fisher, graduate of Brown, served on the Mass. senate and as Trustee at Worcester and later moved to Iowa in 1849 where he also served in the legislature and was elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1858, he also served as a Trustee of the Mt. Pleasant Insane Asylum and as one of the Commissioners erecting the Insane Asylum at Independence. Morton served in the House, as Liet. Governor and was acting governor in 1825 after Eustis' death. Of Morton's twelve children his son Marcus, also became a lawyer and served on Mass. Supreme court. His daughter Frances was the mother of Octave Thanet. King (Harvard 1823) and did not practice law but followed agricultural interests and served in the House and Senate 1836-44.
