Buch Erstausgabe
First Edition. This is from the dustwrapper: "The synovial joint is a marvel of construction allowing movement with the minimum of friction and wear. It consists of a number of separate tissues, each of which has a distinct function. Amongst these is the synovial lining, the subject of this text. While the functions of ligaments, tendons, cartilage and bone are relatively clear, the functions of the synovial lining have been poorly defined and even now are only partially understood. The major impetus to the study of this tissue has been its involvement in rheumatic disease, particularly rheumatoid arthritis. This book is divided into two parts. The first describes the normal synovial lining, including evolution and embryological development, structure and physiology, cellular hyperplasia and tissue hypertrophy, and biochemistry and metabolism. The second part reviews the pathology of the synovial lining with particular regard to rheumatoid arthritis and related patterns of chronic synovitis. A wide ranging discussion encompasses the histopathology, immunopathology and pathological biochemistry of chronic synovitis. In the final chapter the influence of anti inflammatory and anti-rheumatic drugs on the synovial lining is reviewed. This book will be of interest to rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons and basic medical scientists interested in the functioning of joints. The cover illustration shows the Iymphatics of tenosynovial lining as visualised after an Indian ink injection. x120. " Hard back edition Green cloth in dustwrapper, 376 pages. There is a six line inscription on the front free end paper, which although not signed would seem to be made by one of the authors (Edwards).Very good book in a very good dustwrapper with some sun fading.
