Cloth. Zustand: Fair. No Jacket. Original reddish cloth with gilt titling. Roughly 16 ½ inches tall by 12 inches wide. Xxxii, 33-528 pp. A primarily pictorial history of the Civil War, with full page black and white illustrations throughout, as well as several two page illustrations. Interspersed with explanatory captions and historical commentary. FAIR condition. Heavy uneven discoloration and staining to the covers, with scattered soiling. Uneven heavy fading. Moderate scuffing. Small chip of cloth missing from the lower front cover. Extremities very scuffed and worn, with the cloth frayed, split and torn in several locations, resulting in minor loss. Heaviest at the corners and spine. Binding is VERY SHAKY, with the block cracked in several locations. First endpaper DETACHED and laid in, as well as pages 269-74. Several other pages are loosening but still intact. Uneven minor to moderate browning to the paper, with a few small tears throughout. Very light scattered soiling and foxing.

Many illustrations of battle scenes from the Civil War, with illustrations by Forbes, Taylor, Wau Hillen, Becker, Lovie, Schell, Crane and Davis, among others. GOOD condition. Heavy uneven fading and toning to the covers, with brownish soiling and scuff marks. Some staining. Cloth split, frayed and very worn along the extremities and hinges. White paint mark at the lower center spine. Title page with a vertical tear running almost its entire length. Hinges weak but intact. Scattered foxing, minor soiling and a few small stains in the book.
