Second Preferred Edition; 8vo; pp. 151; frontispiece, 51 b/w illustrations; 4 fold out sheets depicting floor plans of nine Sunday Schools, original green cloth, title lettered in white on spine and front board, spine and corners bumped, bookplate on front endpaper, Sunday school stamp on front endpaper, insect damage to edge of back endpaper, good copy. Henry Lipson Hancock 1867-1935, developed a system of Sunday school curriculum of world-class standard, just prior to the First World War. Hancock travelled to the US to view methods of teaching, and developed an Australian curriculum. Based on current theories of the day, grades were introduced according to children's ages, and carefully prepared lessons were presented by trained teachers. Hancock apparently had great success using a version of the monitorial system of teaching.
