Grey cloth over boards, title stamped in glit onto upper board and spine, 8vo (8-11/16 inches [22 cm] tall), pp. xii, [1], 2-342, [343], 24 full page [inc. frontis] and 56 half page illustrations, three maps - one being a large color fold-out at rear. Volume with light wear to extremities and a 1/4 inch closed tear at each spine end, period ink name and date [1907] to front pastedown, 2nd fep with modern ink gift insc., map with some toning to edges, a 4 inch fold line tear at foot and a few other small closed tears not affecting printed map image. A clean, lovely copy with bright gilt. Between 1898 and 1902 Stutfield made a number of first ascents in the Canadian Rockies, including Survey Peak, Mt Freshfield, Mt Forbes, and Diedem. J.N.Collie made the first ascent of Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis. He climbed with Mummery in the Alps and accompanied him to Nanga Parbat in 1895. He first visited the Rockies in 1897 and was president of the A.C. 1920-1922. One of the classics of the Canadian Rockies and among the best early books on the Canadian Rockies. Ref.
