Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Tales and Legends of Saxony and Lusatia, W. Westall, illustrations by H W Peterick. Pub. London: Griffith and Farran & Geneva: The Continental Company. 1877. First ed. 311 pages, 32-page publisher's catalogue to the rear for 'Juvenile Library'. Blue cloth, gilt titles and vignette to the front panel (replicating an illustration within). Spine cloth faded touches wear to the top and bottom of the spine, rubbed in places. A few of the signatures slightly sprung, with occasional gapping between, but the binding was pretty solid, just a little cocked. A few spots of foxing to free endpapers. No inscriptions. The author was William Bury Westall [1835-1903] an English novelist. On the contents page a slip has been tipped in where the author acknowledges his debt to several German titles 'For the germ, and, in some instances, the substance, of these Legends' as the source of the legends in the book, suggesting that Westall was not simply collecting but, using his novelist's imagination, writing them, too. . A very rare title.
