Bound in contemporary oak boards, with half leather covering, this leather is renewed but not recently, endpapers are also renewed, but the old endpapers have been retained, traces of clasps, small portion of the lower wooden board missing. Last leaf is damaged and has been repaired resulting in the loss of a few words at 11 lines and a few letters at 9 lines. Some marginal clear waterstains, capital spaces left blank. Overall a good and complete copy with extensive contemporary marginal annotations. Also contemporary notes on the inside of the upper board, and on the remaining old fly leaves. Watermark : bull's head with a stem topped by a five lobbed flower (height 135 mm). This is the fifth known imprint of Gellius' Noctes Atticae. It was printed by Bonino de Boninis, one of the first European printers. He was a Croat (his croat name is Dobric Dobricevic). He was born on the island of Lagosta (Dalmatia) near Ragusa (Dubrovnik) in 1454 and died in Treviso in 1528. His first activities in printing were in Venice at the end of the 1470's. He was in Brescia from 1483 onwards and is credited for the printing there of ca. 40 books, mainly classical authors. At the end of the century he resided in Lyons ( Lyon ) where, apart from printing books, he was also an informer for the Venetian Republic.
