This volume focuses on understanding the impact of age-related decline in cognitive abilities on medical decisions and compliance with medical instructions. It examines how medical information and the medical environment can be restructured to accommodate the decreased cognitive function associated with aging. Although the issues discussed in this book are of critical importance in providing effective health care, they have been largely neglected in the national debate over provision of health care for the increasingly aging population. It is essential that we begin to understand how to present information so that informed choices are made and patients comprehend well enough that they can follow their treatment regimens and understand the importance of those regimens.

Divided into four major sections, this volume addresses the following issues:
* the implications of cognitive aging for medical information processing;
* aging and medical decision making;
* aging and medication adherence; and
* human factors design for medical devices and instructions.

Biografía del autor:

Korean-American authorSamuel Park was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil until the age of fourteen. His novel "This Burns My Heart" was chosen as a ?Best Book of 2011? by Amazon, "Kirkus Reviews", and "BookPage". It was named one of NPR's ?Freshest Reads? and "Today"'s ?Favorite Things, ? and has been translated into four languages. J. Frank Yates is professor of business administration and marketing at the University of Michigan Business School. An award-winning teacher, for over two decades he has taught decision making at UMBS and as a visiting professor abroad, including at Peking University, Leiden University, and the University of Tokyo. Yates is the associate editor of the Journal of Behavioral Decision Making and a past president of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making. He writes extensively on decision topics and has been on the editorial boards of numerous journals that publish key developments in decision research, including Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, the Journal of Applied Psychology, and Medical Decision Making.
