Robert G Hoyland is a Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford and author of Seeing Islam as Others saw it (Darwin; Princeton, 1997) and Arabia and the Arabs (Routledge; London, 2001). Philip F Kennedy is Professor in the Middle East Department of New York University and author of The Wine Song in Classical Arabic Poetry (OUP; Oxford, 1997).
