The different topics ranging from the home to death allow the reader to see what standards and practices other cultures uphold. Though intermittently a bit of the author slips out from the pages when she stops to elucidate, she slips behind the maxims of her parents, with the occasional wink and nudge to her readers to remind them she is still there.
