Stephen Whitlock is proud of his Southern heritage. His book is in honor of his great-great-grandfather, Andrew Carson McKay, who fought with the 56th Alabama Cavalry, Partisan Rangers. Says Whitlock, "When you say Partisan Ranger, most people know nothing of the title. My motivation was to educate people about a Civil War soldier who most people knew nothing of, and his importance in history."
