I have to say that I found reading this set of Commando stories both entertaining and nostalgic - a veritable walk down memory lane! Having started a story, I found myself unable to put the book down until I had reached the end - exactly as had been the case all those years ago in my youth! --Britain at War Magazine

Our army, or what was left of it, had been withdrawn from France via the beaches of Dunkirk, disabling and abandoning arms and equipment during the desperate evacuation. While they reorganized and re-equipped there was no effective fighting force to stand against Hitler's Wehrmacht should they choose to invade.
