The 14 fine-coloured aquatint plates all measure 10¾" x 8" on pages 11½" x 9¾", landscape format from the first quarto edition. They are - with publication date, watermark details and faults: Mentz - Sept 1819, J Whatman, Turkey Mills, 1818, slight marks on the plate and in the margin; Castle at Furstenberg - Dec 1819, J Whatman, 1818, three small spots near the upper edge of the plate, margins slightly soiled; Bacharach - Nov 1st 1819, no watermark, margins a bit toned and with a ¼" tear; Pfaltz Castle - Nov 1st 1819, no watermark, irregular hole (max 1" x 1½") in the lower margin - not affecting the caption; Thurnberg - Jan 1st 1820, no watermark, small corner (max ½" x ½") torn from the lower corner margin and some soling in the opposite corner - not affecting text in either case; Liebenstein - Dec 1st 1819, no watermark apparent, both image and margins are soiled with an amateur drawing pasted on the rear; Braubach - Jan 1st 1820, J Whatman 1820, very slight markings and a very slight crease on the image, margins slightly dusty and creased; Bornhofen - Jan 1st 1820, no watermark, margins dusty and with a small corner (max 1½" x ¼") lacking from the lower left corner, but not affecting the text; Boppard - March 1sr 1820, no watermark, a few small spots in the sky area of the image, the margin is slightly thumbed and dusty, a corner (max 1½" x ½") is lacking from the lower left corner - not affecting the text, but close to the legend "C G Schultz Delt"; Engers and Sayin - March 1st 1820, no watermark, the margins are are slightly dusty; Andernach and Neuwied - Feb 1st 1820, no watermark, the margins are soiled and with a corner (1½" x ¼") lacking from the lower left hand corner; Hammerstein - Jan 1st 1820, no watermark, the margins are slightly dusty with slight rippling just affecting the lower margin of the image - probablyinvisible under glass; Castles of Drachenfels & Rolandseck - March 1st 1820, no watermark, margins just slightly dusty; Bodensberg and the seven Hills - Feb 1st, no watermark, margins slightly dusty; Cologne - March 1st 1820, no watermark, the margins are slightly dusty, there is a small area of discolouration (1½" x ½") in the lower right hand corner of the image.
