This Bible was previously owned by the eminent Puritan Divine, Henry Newcome. Receiving Presbyterian ordination at Sandbach, Cheshire, he became an eminent divine of the royalists, puritan school in Manchester, signing the Solemn League and Covenant and organizing a clerical union on the model of Richard Baxter. Ejected in 1662, he was offered a speedy and quiet Episcopal ordination to keep him in the pulpit, such was his godliness, moderating and popularity. The New Testament and Psalms only.
