1941 Cross-Country Road Trip Scrapbook

This scrapbook documents a road trip from Hillsboro, New Hampshire to Los Angeles, California from September 12 to September 23 in 1941. Red boards with gilt lettering and blind embossed designs on cover. Measures about 14 ½ x 12 inches. Some rubbing to edges; mild soiling. Interior comprised of tan pages bound with string. Glued to the pages are various pieces of ephemera including maps, post cards, and pamphlets. The first 25 pages are used, while the remaining 25 pages are left blank. Many items are captioned in black ink with lengthy entries that describe the trip. Except for one postcard, all the items are still attached and in very good condition. Compiler of the scrapbook is unknown. The first page has a Standard Oil Company road map of the U. S. With the trip's route outlined in black. The following pages are filled with souvenirs from the various stops. Notable items include postcards from Niagara Falls; a Mount Rushmore pamphlet; a few items, including a seminar schedule, from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota; four Haynes postcards from Yellowstone; a Park Service pamphlet also from Yellowstone; and four postcards and a pamphlet from the Grand Canyon. The final leg of the journey from the Grand Canyon to Los Angeles is not documented. There are also many other maps that show the route in more detail. This is a nice, though somewhat limited, record of an epic trip from coast to coast across the U. S. Image is slightly cropped due to size of scanner, more photos available upon request.
