Beschreibung
Brown wooden boards with "Scraps" and image of a cowboy and a horse in raised wood on cover. Piece of horse's head is chipped away; some scratching and scuffing to wood. Boards measure approximately 10 ½ x 11 ¾ inches. Interior has string-bound tan pages affixed with snapshot photos, maps, pamphlets, and other ephemera. Scrapbook contains about 88 photos, seven maps, 10 pamphlets, four sets of postcards, as well as some assorted ephemera such as tickets, labels, coins, and clippings from newspapers and magazines. Photos are corner mounted while the other items are taped to the album leaves. There 22 corner mounts that are missing photos. Photos are a mix of professional souvenir photos and amateur snapshots, largely in very good condition. Notes in green pen caption the photos and recount the trip; some photos are also captioned on verso. An early page has an envelope with a letter in Spanish. Envelope is addressed to Pauline Geiger in Tiffin, Ohio. One of the maps has come loose. Laid in is the August 30, 1942 issue of the Tulsa Sunday World. Overall in fair condition due to missing photos. The travelers left on August 17, 1942 drove to Dubuque, Iowa. From there they traveled to South Dakota and visited the Badlands, the Black Hills, and Mount Rushmore. They then passed through Wyoming on the way to Yellowstone. The Yellowstone section has pictures of bears and scenes of iconic geysers and waterfalls. There is a 1928 pamphlet about the park's geologic history and a 1929 pamphlet about geysers. After a few days touring Yellowstone, they headed to Fort Collins, Colorado. They then spent some time with friends in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After a few stops in Arkansas and Ohio, they returned home. Most of the photos from later in the trip are missing, but the stops in South Dakota and Yellowstone are well represented. A nice, though incomplete, scrapbook recounting an interesting road trip.
