With the talking horse, Bree he goes north on a fearful journey past the eerie tombs in the desert, and in disguise through the city of Tashbaan to find Narnia.. When Shasta, the son of the cruel Calormene fisherman, Arsheesh, overhears Arsheesh planning to sell him as a slave, he decides to run away to the far North, a place he has always dreamed about. Knowing that he will not get far on his own, he intends to steal a war-horse, but the horse, because it is a Talking Horse from Narnia, in the end steals 'him'.
The unlikely pair soon meet some reluctant travelling companions: Aravis, a high-born girl escaping a forced marriage, and Hwin, another Talking Horse. The two children have to combine both their wits and strength to overcome the problems they encounter en route, and when they discover a Calormene plot to conquer Narnia, they must also race against time.
The battle that ensues matches in excitement any of the adventures described in the previous two books of 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. Aslan and the Kings and Queens of Narnia once again rise to the occasion to defend their kingdom.
