This useful guide to the best books about Judaism contains approximately 500 annotated entries listing books on such topics as the Bible, Jewish thought, Jewish history, the Holocaust, the arts, Israel, prayer books, and women. Despite the few questionable inclusions and omissions inevitable in undertakings of this nature, this collection is a fairly solid work. Its greatest weakness is the skimpy chapter on Jewish fiction, which could have been omitted with no great loss. Helpful features include the essays introducing each section, listings of Jewish periodicals and Jewish bookstores, and a glossary.
