Nujeen Mustafa, nacio con paralisis cerebral, a sus dieciseis anos habia pasado toda su vida en una silla de ruedas. Tenia pocos estudios formales en Siria, pero habia aprendido por si misma el idioma ingles viendo novelas en la television. En el ano 2014, Kobane, su ciudad natal, fue el centro de feroces batallas entre los militantes de ISIS y las fuerzas kurdas apoyadas por los Estados Unidos, obligando a su familia a huir a traves de la frontera hasta Turquia, y desde alli hacia Europa, donde viven actualmente en Alemania
