This book is a brilliant description of the life history of an heiress. The ups and downs which she faces in her life are beautifully portrayed by Thomas Hardy. The insecurities she faces in life as well as her bravery in coping with them are presented in a life-like manner. Captivating!
Biografía del autor
Thomas Hardy was a poet and novelist of the naturalist movement. He trained as an architect. He was a religious man who was also deeply influenced by Darwin and fascinated by ghosts and spirits. During his lifetime, he was best known for his novels. His stories combine nuanced description of natural surroundings with the sense of impending moral crisis. He claimed that poetry was his first love, though, and in recent years his poetry has received much critical acclaim.

First published in the New Quarterly Magazine in July 1878, "An Indiscretion" was never collected by Thomas Hardy into any of the four volumes of short stories that he produced during his lifetime. Its eventual printing in 1934 caused a public dispute to erupt between Florence Hardy, his widow, and Sydney Cockerell, his literary executor. Much of the story's essential plot was clearly drawn from The Poor Man and the Lady, Hardy's first novel, which he wrote in 1867 and 1868 but never published.
