The Government sets out its proposed means of addressing the challenges of carbon reduction and security of energy supply. Faced with a projected loss of up to a third of existing electricity generating capacity - through closure of coal and nuclear plants - over the next two decades, and with challenging targets for reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050, the main proposals cover: energy efficiency; cleaner energy; renewable sources; replacing nuclear power stations; cleaning up fossil fuels; and developing alternative fuels for transport.
