Trade union officials have a statutory right to reasonable paid time off from employment to carry out trade union duties and to undertake trade union training. This Code of Practice provides guidance on: the entitlements to time off for trade union activities and training, including Union Learning Representatives; the shared responsibilities of employers and trade unions; the advantages of formal agreements on time off; industrial action and methods of appeal. This Code revises the 2003 ed. (ISBN 9780117031548). It is issued under s. 199 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 and comes into force on 1 January 2010
