He is a professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Department of Computer Science. He holds professional association memberships with the Association for Computing Machinery and the IEEE Computer Society. Kafura has published papers in both the major European (ECOOP) and American (OOPSLA) conferences. Kafura is also the author of Object-Oriented Software Design and Construction with C++, Prentice Hall, 1998.
