This text describes fundamental numerical methods which are briefly explained with examples of applications and software. Almost every numerical method explained in the book is implemented in a FORTRAN program listed in the book. When alternative methods are described in parallel, Nakamura explains relations among them and compares the pros and cons of the methods. The successive-over-relaxation (SOR) method and the methods for locating the optimal parameter automatically within a program of SOR are described.
