Good writing fulfills the aim for which it is written

In Aims and Strategies of Good Writing, James L. Kinneavy’s A Theory of Discourse is developed into simple strategy for today’s student writers.  This innovative theory is based on simple concepts; that there are only six reasons (or aims) to write anything: to inform, to prove something to be true, to search for an answer to a perplexing question, to persuade a reader, to express emotion, or to create literature (or to “play” with language).

Traditional approaches to essay writing, such as definition, comparison/contrast, narration, and argument, are techniques that writers use to help fulfill these aims, but they never are the reason for putting pen to paper.

Aims and Strategies of Good Writing provides today’s writers with a clear, logical, and natural approach to writing.
