The third of Scott's Waverley Novels, and Scott's own particular favourite. Set in Scotland at the end of the eighteenth century, it centres around a young man called Lovel who meets Jonathan Oldbuck, the loquacious old antiquary, on a trip to Scotland. When he is introduced to Sir Arthur Wardour and his daughter Isabella, his life is irrevocably changed. Rich in drama and chivalry, it was one of the most influential works of its day.
Biografía del autor
Walter Scott (1771-1832) was an influential novelist, establishing the form of the historical novel and the short story. He wrote both dramas and novels, including The Tale of Old Mortality and Kenilworth.
David Hewitt is Professor in Scottish literature at the University of Aberdeen and is editor-in-chief of the Edinburgh Edition of the Waverley Novels.
David Punter is Professor of English Studies at the Univesity of Stirling and has published widely on English and Scottish literature.
