Organised by theme & genre, this collection reveals unexpected connections & shared preoccupations & allows us to see the Romantics in a fresh light. Thus Blake, Wordsworth & Shelley appear as masters of comedy; Burns & Byron speak of the relationship between man & nature; & Coleridge, Keats & Clare explore the Gothic & surreal. And the acknowledged genius of Blake's 'Tyger', Coleridge's 'Kubla Khan', & Shelley's 'Ozymandias' is set alongside verse from less familiar figures, including a strong representation of women poets such as Charlotte Smith, Felicia Hemans & Letitia Elizabeth Landon.
