For fifty years a great myth has surrounded Field Marshal Montgomery and his conception and execution of the Battle of Normandy, following the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944. The quarrels between the commanders are investigated as are the appalling losses of British and Canadian infantry when the battle failed to develop as planned. The question of manpower availability is examined as well as the truth about the roles of Field Marshal Montgomery and General Omar Bradley during the closing of the Allied trap known as the Falaise gap.
Biografía del autor
Carlo D'Este was born in 1936 and served with distinction in the US Army from which he retired with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1978 to write this book.
