This book enriches understanding of political phenomena in the Middle East and North Africa by offering a political and spatial perspective. This is a region where the interaction of geography and politics is more graphically illustrated than anywhere else in the world, and this book fills a noticeable gap in the politial geographical literature of the region. Material and ideas on spatial relationships in the region have until now remained scattered; this is the first effort to integrate such material to describe how it affects Middle Eastern political relationships. In view of the global imporance of the region and the numerous instances in which political conflicts in it have a geographic origin or dimension, this book will make an important contribution to Middle Eastern studies.
