This volume looks at the causes of adult mortality, focusing particularly on socioeconomic factors. It goes beyond description of the observed differences in the level of mortality within and among countries towards explaining these differences. Scholars of demography, sociology, and public health will discover that this study raises important policy implications for the governments of developed countries.
