The aim of this volume is to provide an introduction to modern work in the field of analytic philosophy and the investigation of language and the mind. The text contains an explanation of Frege's logical theories and examines the application of these theories to ordinary language, including such topics as Russell on definite descriptions and Kripke on names. The author explains how the key issue of meaning is itself rooted in the philosophy of mind and the question of internationality - how the mind represents the world. He concludes with an examination of the different ways in which thought can be applied to individual material objects.
