" Youth Empire and Society - British Youth Movements 1883-1940" by John Springhall - 1977 - published by Croom Helm, London. Hardcover pps 163 ( including two Appendices, Critical Bibliography, Bibliographical Notes and index). This was the late author's personal working copy and is profusely annotated throughout, in fine legible pencilled marginalia, with notes, thoughts , corrections, suggested further reading etc etc ( see sellers images for a typical example of same, images typical of entire book). Book is well used thus, although soundly bound, shelfwear to edges, moreso to top and fore edge, fore edge bears the legend "Desk Copy" in capital letters of red biro, foxing to top and fore edge. Sticker adhered to dust wrapper states, in manuscript, ("ANNOTATED COPY Author's,etc, see seller's images). The author's obituary in "The Guardian", mentions how this, his first book,( which developed his doctoral thesis ), led to his appointment as co-ordinating editor of the " Centenary History of the Boys' Brigade". Given the uniqueness of this copy , as set out above, an excellent opportunity arises to explore the late author's personal perambulations on his own work.
