Not illustrated.1870 Excerpt: ... in that venerable Church of all ages and of all nations, which, like Christ, its Founder, has, everywhere and at all times, spoken the self-same language, taught the same faith, been the same "yesterday, to-day, and for ever." We can find it nowhere else. This rule is consistent with itself, it obviates all the difficulties above set forth, it is adapted to the wants of all mankind, it fosters humility, it establishes unity of faith, it firmly sustains the whole Christian system, it is eminently conservative in its character and tendency, it is worthy the wisdom-of Christ, it is conformable with the whole genius of Christianity, and it can, moreover, plead an express and solemn institution of the Saviour. The argument based on what we have hitherto said, may be thus stated: that Church is the one true Church of Christ which alone adopts the Eule of Faith established by Christ, and which alone receives and fully carries out the means which He Himself ordained, when delivering the apostolical Commission for teaching all nations and converting the world to His Eeligion; but the Catholic Church alone does all this, as we have shown; therefore, the Catholic Church alone can claim to be the one true Church established by Christ. This Is The First Evidence Of Catholicity. This argument will receive additional weight from what I hope to establish in the next Lecture; in which, if you will honor me with your attention, I hope to satisfy you on the question of fact,--that the Catholic Church alone has fulfilled the Commission, by actually converting to Christianity all the nations which have ever been so converted.
