The author sees a dangerous misuse and ignorance of the true meanings of the Bible arising in the modern day. With this in mind, John Bright sets out to illuminate the unity of the Scriptures through the Kingdom of God concept, which might rescue the Bible from deep misunderstanding. Amidst the often fragmented nature of the Bible, Bright finds a prolonged theme of redemption, salvation and the hope of a people of God to come under His reign. This theme links both the Old Testament to the New, and Bright moves back even further to the formative years of the Hebrew nation, providing considerable historical scope to the text. In addition, the final chapter examines the consequences, which the unifying concept of the Kingdom of God might have for the present-day Church. A historical focus brings clarity and depth to a text, which offers the reader the chance to uncover a more lucid message behind the Scriptures. ""The Kingdom of God" involves, in a real sense, the total message of the Bible. not only does it loom large in the teachings of Jesus; it is to be found, in one form or another, through the length and breadth of the Bible."
Dr. John Bright was Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament Interpretation at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia.
