Excerpt from The Princeton Seminary Bulletin, 2008, Vol. 29
As theologically apt as it was for the bishop to focus on right relationships in transnational mission, and as visionary as it was for him to call for such relation ships to abound even in a context of significant worldly differences, what strikes me as most unusual is the notion that his audience could give friends. Note that he did not say send friends. He assumed the function of sending, but he saw something larger than that. Perhaps he saw that there is little that is random about who knows whom in this world. There are systems at work that generate and shape the opportunities people have to get acquainted and form bonds of friendship, and he was talking to some of the people in charge of those systems.

It argues that transnational mission partnerships have played a vital role in the expansion of Christianity around the world and that they have also had a profound impact on the way that the Bible is interpreted and used. The book examines the history of transnational mission partnerships from the early church to the present day, and it provides a detailed analysis of the different ways that the Bible has been used in these partnerships. The author argues that the Bible has been used as a tool for conversion, for social justice, and for building relationships between different Christian communities. The book concludes by arguing that transnational mission partnerships are an essential part of the Christian tradition and that they will continue to play a vital role in the future of the church.
