Excerpt from How to Examine for Life Insurance
The aim in writing this book has been to give to the Medical Examiner for Life Insurance a manual which is plain and practical, free from matters that are not of direct interest to him in the examination of an applicant for insurance, but at the same time sufficiently instructive to recall to his mind all the important points in relation to physical diag nosis that are likely to be of value to him. A physician Who intends to examine for Life Insurance should especially prepare himself by a close study of such excellent works as Da Costa's Medical Diagnosis, F in layson's Clinical Diagnosis and Tyson's Practical Examination of Urine. An Examiner's duties are simply to portray to the Home Office, in as clear and concise a manner as possible, the medical history, the actual condition of the applicant, and all that pertains to his health and its probable maintenance. The laws of average and the selection of lives are of little interest to him in the field he needs to be reminded of the instructions from his Company, and how to accomplish his work in as thorough and expeditious a manner as possible.
