Il fallait, dès le matin, faire occuper militairement les portes. La rue Saint - Dominique et les autres rues adja centes étaient garnies d'une double file d'équipe ges, et une assemblée d'élite remplissait la nef et les bas côtés, inondait le choeur, couvrait les mar ches de l'autel et débordait à toutes les issues. Ce lui que l'on attendait ainsi arrivait avec son sujet médité, aussi tranquille que s'il n'avait rien à faire; et, après son improvisation tout apostolique, s'en allait aussi insoucieux des applaudissements que s'il n'avait rien dit.
