Excerpt from Proceedings of the Second Glacier Bay Science Symposium: September 19-22, 1988, Glacier Bay Lodge, Alaska
The Second Glacier Bay Science Symposium was held at the Glacier Bay Lodge in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Alaska, on September 19-22, 1988. Jointly sponsored by the National Park Service, Friends of Glacier Bay, and the Glacier Bay Science Board, the principal objectives of the symposium were: To provide bridges of communication between the various scientific disciplines; To present the results of scientific research conducted at Glacier Bay during the past five years; To examine the relationship between science and management in Glacier Bay; and To discuss the future direction and role of science in Glacier Bay.
There is no doubt it was a unique symposium. The presentations and discussions concerned a variety of different disciplines, with participants from a number of generations relating to one relatively small, specific area of our globe.
