February 10, 1684. The Governor of New York is to come, they say, next summer to the Mohawk and Speak there t0'the Iroquois. We'll'see what he'll say. He has sent a shabby ship's flag to the Mohawk to be planted there. This is the coat of arms of England. This flag is still in the public chest of the Mohawks. I know not when it will see day.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. In the 17th century, the French and the Iroquois Confederacy were on the brink of war. This book presents a rich collection of primary sources from this period, including official reports, letters, and speeches from both sides. These documents bring to life the tensions, negotiations, and battles that unfolded during the conflict, culminating in the 1684 peace treaty signed at Hungry Bay. The author provides historical context to set the stage for this pivotal event, and the documents themselves offer firsthand accounts of the clash between European colonialism and Native American resistance. The book explores themes of diplomacy, cultural conflict, and the struggle for power on the North American frontier. Through these primary sources, readers gain a deep understanding of the complex factors that shaped relations between the French and the Iroquois Confederacy. The peace treaty signed at Hungry Bay represents a turning point in the history of the region, and this book provides invaluable insights into the negotiations and compromises that led to its creation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
