As a general rule, the most vulnerable part of the structure is the door and its fastenings and the adjacent parts of the walls. The door is commonly made thicker, often much thicker than the walls of the chamber elsewhere, and it is reenforced, and its locking and bolting systems are made effective for their purpose by the most ingenious devices to be found in the whole range of mechanics. It is here, in fact, that the ingenuity of the modern mechanic is mainly demanded and principally displayed.
